I've never been interested in collecting experiences. I'm interested in going deep.
When something captures my attention, I don't stop at reading a book or taking a class. I immerse myself until I understand it deeply, then I create something meaningful from the experience and help others benefit from what I've learned.
That pattern has shaped my entire life.
Whether it's spending 262 days in silent meditation, exploring grief after the death of my partner of 31 years, developing practical approaches to psychedelic preparation and integration, creating the MSI-76 Maṅgala Sutta Inventory and practice app, running muddy obstacle races after multiple joint replacements, or paddleboarding 21 miles in one day with my two dogs, I don't dabble. I immerse myself.
Along the way, I’ve written 33 books, appeared as a guest on more than 100 podcasts, earned 31 professional credentials and certifications, and created practical resources that people can continue using long after the conversation ends. My work has included career and business coaching, substance abuse counseling, EMT and firefighter instruction, motivational interviewing, Tai Chi, meditation, outdoor adventure, and farm animal rescue.
People have described me as a Renaissance man, a polymath, and even "a cornocopia of information." I simply see myself as relentlessly curious. I love asking better questions, challenging conventional thinking, connecting ideas across disciplines, and translating complex subjects into practical tools that improve people's lives.

1. People have called you a Renaissance man, a polymath, and even "a cornucopia of information." What connects ānāpāna meditation, psychedelics, grief, obstacle races, paddleboarding with dogs, coaching, and the Maṅgala Sutta?
2. You spent years turning a 2,500-year-old Buddhist teaching into a book, a 76-item assessment, a behavior-tracking app, and a professionally produced Pāli chant. Why did the Maṅgala Sutta pull you in so deeply?
3. You spent 262 days in silent meditation, yet you believe much of what people are taught about meditation misses the point. What did silence teach you that most people get wrong?
4. You argue that psychedelic preparation and integration are not enough. What is the missing third piece, and why does it matter?
5. After your husband of 31 years died, you chose to use MDMA as part of your grief journey. What happened that completely changed your understanding of grief?
6. You use marijuana yourself, yet you believe today's legalization movement is headed toward disaster. What are the rest of us missing?
7. You replaced three major joints, suffered a triple femur fracture, and still returned to obstacle racing. What keeps drawing you back to the starting line?
8. As a gay man, you're willing to challenge ideas within your own community, even when it's unpopular. What experiences led you there?
9. You taught yourself to paddleboard while teaching two dogs to paddleboard, then paddled 21 miles with them in a single day. What did that adventure teach you about life?
10. If your life seems so unconventional from the outside, what compass have you been following all these years?
I have appeared as a guest on more than 100 podcasts, discussing subjects as varied as meditation, grief, psychedelics, cannabis policy, gay identity, business, animal rescue, outdoor adventure, and creating a life without regrets.
