Jason Del Gandio has a PhD in Communication Studies and has been studying "vibes" for approximately 30 years. He is a published author, an award-winning teacher, and an engaged intellectual. His latest book entitled "Vibe-Talk: How and Why We Communicate about Vibes" is now available for preorder.
For his doctoral work, he developed his own philosophy of the vibe referred to as “bodily emanation.” He has published essays on the topic in both scholarly and popular presses. He's been interviewed for television, radio, and print media, and gives talks and workshops for a variety of audiences.
On the personal side, he equally enjoys drifting through urban landscapes and sitting quietly in natural environments. He's also dedicated to social justice and a lover of live music, stimulating conversation, and international travel.
Here are two ways Jason defines vibes:
1) The exchange of energy between you and the world.
2) A communicative dynamic involving a variety of affective experiences (emotion, mood, feeling, vocal expression, body language, physical presence, psychological outlook).
Why Vibes?
We all refer to and experience vibes on a daily basis. But few people take the time to define, explain, or understand the phenomenon. Bringing this knowledge and experience to our conscious awareness can help us:
-connect with ourselves and others
-modulate our feelings, moods, and emotions
-create better relationships
-increase our energy levels
-avoid negative or draining situations
-attune to different environmental stimuli
-elevate our conversations and public discourse
-shift outlooks and mindsets
-identify both stressors and pleasures.
-How to define, explain, and experience vibes.
-How to communicate with your vibe.
-How the vibe relates to different experiences: music, sports, politics, theater, art, romance, work relations, city environments, and nature.
1) What is the vibe, exactly?
2) How can we tap into or feel the vibes of other people?
3) How can I change and improve my own vibe?
4) How can I use my vibe as a form of communication?
5) How can I create a better vibe in specific situations (work, family, friends)?
6) How can I shield myself from negative vibes?
7) How might the phrase "good vibes only" be misleading?
8) How can people use the vibe to be more charismatic?
9) How can I use the vibe to create a certain mood or atmosphere?
10) Do other cultures talk about vibes?
